The Musicboard Berlin GmbH champions and invests in the Berlin pop music scene to enrich and strenghten its cultural and economic appeal, both nationally and internationally. By ‘pop music’, the Musicboard Berlin GmbH summarizes all genres and sub genres of popular music. The Musicboard Berlin GmbH funds by supporting innovative ideas based on realistic concepts, and by investing in projects with beneficial effects for the pop music scene and economy. There are no defined topics rather common purposes the funding authority and funding recipient try to achieve together. With the Call for Concepts the Musicboard Berlin GmbH encourages professionals of the Berlin pop music scene, to apply their experience and test new and innovative approaches.
The program ‘Career springboard Berlin’ is intended to fund projects and platforms that support up-and-coming talents in the music industry and musicians, ranging from all genres and sub genres of popular music, in order to facilitate significant leaps towards a professional, national and international career. (e.g. a series of concerts, workshops, interdisciplinary formats). Note: the program ‘Career springboard Berlin’ does not fund individual artists or bands! In this case, please check the program ‘Scholarships & residencies’ and ‘support funding’!
In 2018, our focus will continue to be on promoting women in pop culture and strengthening the LGBT and POC scene. The content of the projects must be based on a 50/50 participation of artists (e.g. booking, workshop organisers, participation of artists). In addition, a further focus will be placed on the themes of accessibility and inclusion. Applicants are requested to design at least half of the event (or the main venue / main stage of the event) completely barrier-free. Extra material and personnel costs may be applied for (but no investment costs). We further welcome the inclusion of people with disabilities into the line-ups. Applicants are also encouraged to develop projects which deal creatively with the topic of inclusion.
The aim is to bring people with and without disabilities together in Berlin’s club and concert life.

Note: Up-and-coming talents are professionals of the music industry that have been only active for a couple of years in the position their seeking funding for. Up-and-coming artists are musicians that have already made their first steps towards a professional career (e.g. first major concert/performance, first solo album), but need further support to establish their career, nationally and internationally. A certain degree of professionalization is mantatory, there is no age limit. Berlin must be the main place of residence and work.
The supported projects should generate an overall benefit for the pop music scene and music industry, thus the submitted projects should comprise a total scope of 10,000 Euro (which does not have to be the requested amount of funding). Projects for up-and-coming professionals, cooperations in Berlin and projects with self-participation are given preference in the selection. It is recommended to apply with a cooperation partner/partners. The implementation of the proposed project cannot commence before the notification of the funding decision and must be scheduled for and concluded within the specific year of funding.
