Call for Concepts: Scholarships & Residencies 2023

Musicboard we are pleased to inform you that the online application form for the Scholarships & Residencies funding programme has just been activated.

Up until the deadline on 1 March 2023 at 6 p.m., musicians from all genres of popular music who live and work in Berlin can apply for a scholarship or residency abroad.

Please note: Since 2023, all funding applications to Musicboard Berlin must be submitted by 6 p.m. on the day of the application deadline. Only fully completed applications that are submitted on time and electronically via the new application tool of Musicboard Berlin GmbH can be considered.

SCHOLARSHIPS

All project scholarships for the 2023 funding year will be awarded by the application deadline of 1 March 2023. Musicians and bands from Berlin can apply for a scholarship if they wish to advance artistically or professionally by means of a time-limited musical initiative. This year, Musicboard will again offer professional musician and band coaching for scholarship holders. We are pleased that in 2023, last year’s phenomenal experts will return: Jovanka von Wilsdorf (BMG, DIANA, freelance coach) and Nicky Böhm (Atonal, Refuge Worldwide).

RESIDENCIES  – 1. FUNDING ROUND

By the application deadline of 1 March 2023, Musicboard will grant two international  residencies in Havana and Salvador de Bahia and three Co-Creation Residencies in Accra-Berlin, Kampala-Berlin and Tel Aviv-Berlin. You may still know the Co-Creation Residencies under their old name Tandem Residencies. With the new term, we would like to emphasize the collaborative character of these special residencies, which enable artistic collaboration and transcultural exchange across two continents in each case.

RESIDENCIES – 2. FUNDING ROUND

There will again be a second application deadline on 1 June 2023 for additional residencies. Applications for the residencies at HELLERAU – European Center for the Arts, Villa Aurora in Los Angeles, in Ris-Orange near Paris, at Sternhagen Gut in the Uckermark, and for the Co-Creation resideny Detroit-Berlin will be possible in the second funding round during Summer. The two Hinterhalt Commissions, awarded in cooperation with Deutsche Oper Berlin, will also be announced for the second application deadline on 1 June 2023.

Information on the residencies and the application for the second funding round is expected to be published four to six weeks before the application deadline.

CHANGES IN THE JURY COMPOSITION

We are pleased to welcome Aida Baghernejad (freelance cultural journalist), Misla Tesfamariam (artist manager, label operator) and Ji-Hun Kim (editor-in-chief Das Filter, freelance lecturer, DJ, music producer) as new members of the jury for the Scholarships & Residencies programme. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the former jurors Julia Lorenz and Sarah Farina for their excellent and constructive collaboration over the past years.
