In 2021, Magic Island spent two weeks at A.M.I. in Marseille as part of her Musicboard residency, trying out new performance formats for her current album ›So Wrong‹. With her Berlin-based solo project, the artist weaves together powerful compositions with tangles and twists of her signature weirdness. Starting with experimental compositions on her piano, Magic Island sculpts loops and hooks pulling freely from R&B, experimental pop, soul and mainstream sounds; in short: »honest pop«. In Marseille, she was supported by an artist coaching from Le Studio des Variétés and presented her live show at the Utopia Festival 2021. During her residency, Magic Island was accompanied by videopgraphers from OMAX Télévision. The resulting video documentary offers an insight into both Magic Island’s work and the Musicboard residency at A.M.I. in Marseille.
Musicboard’s residency programme offers residencies for Berlin-based and international musicians both in Germany and abroad. It connects more than a dozen different residency locations around the world.
