R.A.N.

Born and raised in Istanbul, Berlin-based artist R.A.N. explores the possibilities of how sonic textures and rhythm can be used to evoke a sense of antiquity within abstract electronics. She fuses the elements of industrial, ambient and techno with field recordings and traditional instruments, approaching music as a tool for storytelling. Her main inspirations are the human condition, psychology, mysticism and social topics. Since her release ›Her Trembling Ceased‹ via Partapart Records under the moniker R.A.N. (Roads At Night), Utku has been touring Europe and the Middle East. R.A.N.’s ›Şeb-i Yelda‹ EP, released in August 2018 by Karlrecords, presented Utku with an evolved sound and a stronger theme to a wider audience. She subsequently released her debut album ›GNOSIS‹ under her own name in July 2019 via the same label. Her work has been reviewed and featured in notable press outlets such as The Wire, Noisey, Groove, Scene Noise, Magnetic Mag and Electronic Sound among many others.

For 2019, R.A.N. has been granted the residency in Tehran, Iran. Addendum: Since the residence scheduled for 2020 had to be cancelled due to the corona pandemic, R.A.N. instead receives a grant in the amount of 5,295 euros.
