From a young age, Portrait XO was inspired by jazz and improvisation, although her upbringing was strongly focused on classical piano. After listening to Radiohead, Björk and Massive Attack for the first time in the late 90s, her entire perception of music-making changed. With an ongoing interest in exploring experimental approaches to writing, her base of London from 2006 to 2015 set Portrait XO on a new artistic direction and appreciation for electronic music production. She’s a singer, songwriter, producer and installation artist working in the field of AR/VR/XR and AI. She continues to explore different sounds, from soulful pop to experimental, to keep her productions evolving. In March 2020, Portrait XO completed her artist residency with Sónar+D x Factory Berlin, where she researched computational creativity & human-machine collaboration and explored new formats and applications for forward-thinking art and music. Her latest experiment with AI involves feeding a neural network with one hour of her vocals to generate ten hours of new audio.
For 2020, Portrait XO is receiving a grant in the amount of 5,000 euros to work and develop a live performance that dynamically correlates audio and visuals.
