The mission of Pathwaves is to dismantle patriarchal and misogynistic structures within the field of music production and to counteract the fact that around 95 % of the scene’s paid jobs are given to cis-male engineers and producers. How can alternative structures be created and developed? How can skills be shared, networks strengthened and the visibility promoted of female, non-binary and queer producers active in the field be promoted? How can we put pressure on the big players in the music industry to change their ways of thinking? In 2021, in addition to a week-long studio session in which up-and-coming sound engineers and producers collaborated with songwriters in a professional setting, Pathwaves has offered mentoring programmes and master classes as well as community and networking events.
