GOTOPO

GOTOPO is a Colombian-Venezuelan artist based in Berlin. She debuted with ›Malembe‹, a single and music video that takes the viewer from pre-Hispanic times to a post-colonial present: a timeline of America »since before it was America«, as the artist says, introducing GOTOPO’s unique indigenous-futurist aesthetic and sound. Her third independently released single ›Eso‹ with Joaquin Cornejo rapidly earned features on BBC Radio 6, Worldwide FM, XLR8R and DJ Mag and landed in ›Electrica Selvática‹ (295k listeners), impressive milestones for an independent artist with just three songs released. In September 2021 GOTOPO performed with 15 other musicians at the opening ceremony of the Ethnological Museum and Museum of Asian Art at the Humboldt Forum in Berlin, with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, president of Germany, and renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichi in attendance. GOTOPO works currently as a consultant and musician at the Stiftung Humboldt Forum Berlin.

GOTOPO receives a grant of 6,500 euros in 2022 for the release of an EP. In the course of her grant period, GOTOPO receives coaching from Jovanka von Wilsdorf.
