Gotopo is a singer, composer, producer, and performer from Berlin. Her music reveals an Afro-indigenous legacy while combining folkloric stringed instruments and techno-inspired jams. Gotopo moved from Venezuela to Berlin to break the line between classical and club music, pop culture and academia. Gotopo’s music is spiritual and sexy and confronts her lack of ancestral memory while going back to her roots. Gotopo’s first EP is a collaboration with Ulises Lozano and is a fusion of electronic and folkloric music, and is a tribute to positive feminism. The EP includes tracks like ›Cucu‹ and ›Sacúdete‹ where the latter pays tribute to African women. Her music has been well-received in Berlin, with collaborations with Bomba Estéreo and some Zumba trainers incorporating her music into their workouts.
Gotopo receives a grant of 6,500 euros in 2022 for the release of an EP. In the course of her grant period, GOTOPO receives coaching from Jovanka von Wilsdorf.
Gotopo is awarded the 2023 residency at Vila Sul in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil.
