Call for Concepts: Further Residencies & Hinterhalt Commissions 2022

Musicboard Berlin is pleased to offer six additional international and domestic residencies at four special locations as part of its 2022 Residencies programme, as well as two Hinterhalt Commissions in cooperation with Deutsche Oper Berlin. The application deadline for all following programmes is on June 1, 2022, at 6 p.m.

DOMESTIC RESIDENCY: HELLERAU, DRESDEN

In cooperation with HELLERAU – European Centre for the Arts, Musicboard grants two three-week residencies to Berlin-based interdisciplinary pop music soloists, duos, groups and bands in 2022. The residencies in HELLERAU, Dresden offer opportunities for artistic research, for deepening and expanding one’s own working methods as well as developing new projects. The two residencies will take place in specified periods between October and December 2022.

DOMESTIC RESIDENCY: STERNHAGEN GUT, UCKERMARK

In 2022, Musicboard will grant two three-week residencies at Sternhagen Gut in the Uckermark District of Brandenburg to Berlin soloists, duos or bands from the electronic or electro-acoustic fields. Sternhagen Gut is an ideal retreat for musicians who want to work, write or compose their music in a focused and calm environment. Both residencies will take place from September 16 to October 16, 2022.

TANDEM RESIDENCY: DETROIT & BERLIN

Musicboard Berlin in cooperation with the Detroit-Berlin Connection grants one Berlin and one Detroit-based solo artist from the field of electronic music a two-way tandem residency. The idea of the residency is to promote unique exchange and collaboration between musicians from Detroit and musicians from Berlin. The residency takes place place in Detroit and Berlin in spring and summer 2023.

INTERNATIONAL RESIDENCY: LOS ANGELES

Musicboard Berlin in cooperation with the Villa Aurora & Thomas Mann House e. V., grants one Berlin pop musician a three-month residency at Villa Aurora in Los Angeles, USA. As an established residency house, it offers a space for interdisciplinary exchange as well as the opportunity to work on own artistic projects. Due to the networking opportunities on site, the residency is particularly suitable for musicians who are active in the field of film. The residency is scheduled for the first quarter of 2023.

HINTERHALT COMMISSION: DEUTSCHE OPER BERLIN

In addition, Musicboard awards it’s two Hinterhalt Commissions for the composition and design of a production as part of Deutsche Oper’s ›Aus dem Hinterhalt‹ project. The Musicboard scholarship holders develop an original evening of music theater as commentary on one of the opera works premiering on the main stage of the Deutsche Oper Berlin in the same season. The staging of the resulting productions is planned for 2023.
