If Black Skin Lover Boy had the choice between paradise and Berlin, he would always choose Berlin. For Black Skin Lover Boy, Berlin was a kind of redemption after a series of tragic events in his life story: the death of his father as a teenager, emigration to Israel, a stay in prison, deportation to Ghana and finally the flight to Europe through the Sahara and via the Mediterranean route. Black Skin Lover Boy was very lucky, something he is aware of. In his music, he now processes his experiences as an ex-prisoner and refugee. Carried partly by heavy hip-hop and partly by lively Afropop beats, Black Skin Lover Boy raps about topics like death, fear, racism and intolerance as well as perseverance, survival, inner strength, motivation and big dreams. Black Skin Lover Boy’s music is a testimony to cruel and frightening things, but above all, it stands as proof of the gratitude he has for his life today.
In 2021, Black Skin Lover Boy is receiving a grant of 4,000 euros to complete work on his first album and release it with accompanying music videos.
