Badger

In 2017, Max Wiegand’s debut EP was declared »one of the records of the year« by the Zitty editorial team, and many other listeners were enthusiastic about the »deeply explored sonic spaces of boldly mixed, wide-screen electronica« (Nordsee-Zeitung). As Badger, Max Wiegand relies on urban, atmospheric sounds and catchy melodies, placing them into a gloomy, emotional guise. The beats are definitely danceable, the songwriting precise. Confidently drawing on the aesthetics of 80s synth-pop as well as contemporary electronic greats, Badger experiments, connects, pushes forward and takes hold. Somewhere between Depeche Mode, James Blake and Moderat – sometimes brighter, sometimes darker – Badger shares a diffuse mass of external and internal influences that turn vulnerability and challenges outwards.

In 2021, Badger is receiving a grant of 4,000 euros for the realisation of his debut album as well as the implementation of a social media campaign.
