Musicboard is pleased to announce the awarding of seven additional scholarships. Besides, we are pleased to inform you that the Label Funding Program will continue in 2021.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The additional scholarships are awarded to musicians and bands who applied for a scholarship or residency in 2020 and were recommended for the successor list. Funding is provided to pop musicians and bands who live and work in Berlin.
In 2020, the following artists are being granted an additional 4,500.00 euros scholarship:

The additional scholarships were recommended by an independent jury – the same jury that has also been responsible for the Scholarships & Residencies program since the 2020 funding year. It consists of Sarah Farina (DJ, producer), Julia Lorenz (music journalist, author), Pamela Owusu-Brenyah (A&R, founder of AFRO X POP), Elia Rediger (musician, curator of the series ›Aus dem Hinterhalt‹, Deutsche Oper Berlin) and Katja Lucker (Managing Director Musicboard Berlin GmbH).
LABEL FUNDING
Besides, we are happy to inform you, that the Label Funding Program, which was introduced in 2020 at the suggestion of Berlin label owners, will be continued next year. The program has been well received by the scene and has proven to be very effective in promoting Berlin artists as well as supporting independent labels.
In 2021, Musicboard will again award indirect support for artists by funding independent labels who are planning specific steps to establish newcomer artists based in Berlin. In the case of funding for Berlin labels, the artists benefit not only from financial support but also from the expertise of the labels. Applications are submitted and funds allocated on a quarterly basis through the decision of an independent jury, whose current composition will remain unchanged next year. This is the same jury that recommended the additional scholarships (see above). The project is not bound to the quarter in which the application is submitted, but has to be fully implemented within the year of application.
The online application form for the first quarter 2021 of the Label Funding Program will presumably be activated in the beginning of January 2021. Till the application deadline of 15 February 2021, label operators of an independent label based in Berlin can apply for Label Funding in the first quarter.
The application deadlines are:
February 15 for the 1st quarter of 2021
March 15 for the 2nd quarter of 2021
June 15 for the 3rd quarter of 2021
September 15 for the 4th quarter of 2021
