Untraining the Ear

UNTRAINING THE EAR explores new ways of experiencing sound. With strategies of unlearning and processes of relearning, the listening sessions aim to decipher sound beyond its contextual affiliation of geography, genre, and valences of identity. While the series previously took place as »Listening Session in person,« in 2020 it was re-conceptualised as a »Listening Station in-streaming«. As such, UNTRAINING THE EAR not only evolved to comply with event restrictions – it also addressed the cultural stasis and its associated changes in sensory perception, from a thematic and aesthetic point of view. Over four different sessions, participating sound artists and musicians such as Martyna Poznańska, bani haykal and Shanti Suki Osman addressed questions of altered sensuality in 40-minute audio pieces, made accessible via radio broadcast and stream.
