Petra Hermanova

In 2018, Petra Hermanova began working with the autoharp, which has since gone on to become the key component of her musical work. Inspired by baroque composition, doom metal and autoharp music of the American Appalachians, the Berlin-based musician and visual artist creates emotionally charged arrangements accompanied by folk-inspired vocals. Her partly narrative, partly surrealistic lyrics deal with the fragility of human existence, religious perceptions of death, and introspective emotional landscapes. Hermanova made her solo debut at the Berliner Festspiele’s The Sun Machine is Coming Down event at the ICC Berlin. She has also performed at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art and has given guest performances at Trauma Bar and Admiralspalast. Petra Hermanova has also toured internationally with previous projects such as her band Fiordmoss.

Petra Hermanova receives a grant of 5,000 euros in 2022 to work on a visual world around her debut album. In the course of the grant, Petra Hermanova receives coaching from Jovanka von Wilsdorf.
