What are roots? What is identity for people who carry several cultures within themselves, and what does it mean to be »mixed«? p a l e addresses these questions. The music project of Aida Séne and Jared Meier-Klodt, who got to know each other in school, deals with their shared identity as Berliners with German-West African origins. In their songs, experiences of longing, discrimination and the surreal are processed with heartache. p a l e draw from these experiences and create narratives that enable them to relive what happened and to find and share healing. Aida Séne’s voice in the foreground is accompanied by deep harmonies that result in minimalist, dark soul.
