New Jury: Scholarships & Residencies

A new jury for the Scholarships & Residencies programme will be appointed for the funding year 2020. We are particularly pleased that we can designate the jury as follows for the coming application deadline: Julia Lorenz, editor and author; Pamela Owusu-Brenyah, freelance A&R and music consultant; and Sarah Farina, DJ and producer, are new members of the jury while Elia Rediger, artist, dramatist and artistic director of the series Aus dem Hinterhalt at Deutsche Oper Berlin and Katja Lucker as managing director of Musicboard Berlin GmbH will retain their position in the jury.

Julia Lorenz studied political science, journalism and communication science in Berlin and Madrid. She is an editor and author and publishes in publications such as the city magazines Zitty and tip, Musikexpress, taz – die tageszeitung, Spiegel Online, ZEIT, Die Epilog and kaput. She can now and then be heard on the radio with ByteFM and in the critic quartet Soundcheck at radioeins. Her favourite subjects include pop culture and social issues.

Pamela Owusu-Brenyah is the founder and director of AFRO x POP, a platform for Afro-diasporic & African artists and music. Since 2017, she has been working as a music consultant, including freelance A&R jobs at AFROFORCE1, the newly founded label of Universal Music, which focuses on the African music market and African artists. Her passion for and knowledge of Afropop music began with her 3-year long stay in Ghana. In Accra she was one of the few female DJs behind the 1s & 2s and was able to experience the rise of popular African music first hand.

Sarah Farina is an international DJ, producer and activist. Together with her DJ colleagues Kepler & Uta she regularly hosts the party series Rec Room at the Berlin club Ohm. She calls her style of music »Rainbow Bass« which outlines vibe and energy bundling heterogeneous sounds independent of genres: Dark turns into light, lightness and positivity lay over heavy bass whilst rules are being broken.

Elia Rediger is a widely travelled Swiss artist, pop singer, composer and playwright. Between 2005 and 2015 he was the lead singer of the pop band The bianca Story and toured with it in over 1200 concerts in Switzerland and abroad. Rediger is currently touring Europe and Africa with a 15-piece band. In addition, he works as an artist, playwright, columnist and singer of the Berlin political Big Band Brigade Futur 3. Since 2019 Rediger is artistic director of the late-night series Aus dem Hinterhalt at Deutsche Oper Berlin.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the parting jury members Anne Haffmans, Heiko Hoffmann, Jens Balzer and Charlotte Goltermann for their good and constructive cooperation over the past years.
