Jembaa Groove

Founded in autumn 2020, Jembaa Groove describes itself as an intercultural music formation. Based on Ghanaian and other West African rhythms and driven by grooves and basslines, Jembaa Groove combines traditional elements with modern ones. The seven-piece band follows minimalist principles while drawing influence from vintage sounds of the 60s and 70s. With the aspiration to transcend any specific genre definition, the ensemble is also inspired by current neo-soul, jazz and hip-hop trends of Berlin’s subcultural scenes in which some of the group’s members are active. »Jembaa« means and symbolises »life« – Jembaa Groove translates this into a sonic aesthetic that radiates lightness and warmth. In spring 2022, Jembaa Groove released their debut album ›Susuma‹.

In 2021, Jembaa Groove is receiving a grant of 4,000 euros for the production, release and marketing of an EP.

In 2022, Jembaa Groove receives a 5,000 Euro grant to work on new song material.
