Queer artist Chimp Hardy is no stranger to controversy. Performing painted and half naked, the Berlin-based, Austin, Texas-born DJ and producer challenges listeners to enter a world where everyone is free to let go and leave their restrictions behind. As a DJ for over a decade, Chimp Hardy’s slammin’ style of mixing brings old school vibes through sets that take dancers on a journey from 90s house, breaks, rave, and techno. As an artist and a producer, his music pulls from these influences and more, and fuses them into a wild »rave pop«. Chimp Hardy’s performances are singular and excessive – ranging from a live set at Berlin’s Ohm covered in paint and a rowdy closing DJ set for Blake Baxter in Leipzig’s Ost-Apotheke that left the whole club naked, to a DJ set at KitKat Club’s CarneBall Bizarre where everyone was already naked.
In 2021, Chimp Hardy is receiving a grant of 4,000 euros to work on a three-part EP project.
