Since the revival of Berlin Atonal in 2013, the long-standing festival has been held annually in the disused Heizkraftwerk Mitte – an industrial complex that could not be more fitting as a setting for the festival’s unusual musical orientation. Musically, Atonal deliberately sits in between all different styles such as new electronic music, electronic avant-garde or advanced rock music, and rings together technology leaders with up-and-coming and established international and Berlin artists. It creates a forum for creative exchange, expression and experimentation and presents new works that move between different traditional and contemporary approaches, from sculptures and installations to audio-visual performances or space-specific interventions in architecture, light, and sound to lectures and workshops. In 2017 Berlin Atonal initiated the module 049x with a focus on young Berlin musicians.
