Philo Tsoungui

Philo Tsoungui is a drummer, composer and producer. As an ensemble member and solo artist, Philo has performed at venues around the world. Philo initially studied classical percussion in Munich and was active in various musical contexts during this time. This was followed by a master’s degree at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg. During their studies, Philo had already begun touring with various artists; most recently, they took part in a world tour with the US band The Mars Volta. As a producer and composer, Philo has created commissioned works for New Past/New Futures and The Rest of Dance, among others. These experiences, coupled with growing up in a Cameroonian-influenced household, have played a decisive role in the unique blend of different art forms and sounds that characterise Philo’s art. Their great love for classical music as well as spiritual Cameroonian music comes together with a fascination for electronic soundscapes. Philo always understands an artistic project as a whole that stimulates all the senses.

Philo Tsoungui receives a Musicboard scholarship of 6,000 euros in 2024 for the production and release of an EP.
