From 2 to 4 October 2025, Musicboard Berlin will present two supported acts from Berlin – Crow Baby and Baby Smith – at the German Showcase during the Waves Vienna Festival & Conference. The festival provides them with the opportunity to present their music to an international audience and connect with music industry professionals.
The German Showcase is a collaboration between German Music Export of Initiative Musik and regional pop music funding organisations including Musicboard Berlin, popNRW (Landesmusikrat NRW), POP-BÜRO Region Stuttgart, RockCity Hamburg e.V., and Verband für Popkultur in Bayern (VPBy). The aim of the collaboration is to strengthen the presence of German music abroad and support musicians in their international careers.
MUSICBOARD BERLIN PRESENTS CROW BABY AND BABY SMITH
Crow Baby, based in Berlin, is the duo of Cherilyn MacNeil and Jean-Louise Parker, both born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. Each is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with their own musical projects. They reunited in Berlin in 2020 and began playing together regularly on Friday afternoons during the Covid lockdown, creating a creative break from everyday life. The result is an original art-pop band with a punk spirit, combining playful, lively sounds with humorous and witty lyrics.
Baby Smith hails from a quiet coastal town on Australia’s east coast and is the newest addition to the Byron Bay alumni, which includes acts such as Parcels and The Babe Rainbow. The duo enriches the already diverse portfolio of Australian indie acts with expressive songwriting and an honest, unfiltered live performance. Since moving to Berlin, Rachel Sonder and Saxon Gable have been constantly exploring new creative avenues. Inspired by East Berlin’s atmosphere and the playful counterculture of the 1960s, they have developed a carefully crafted musical universe. Their mission: to bring artists and audiences closer together.

The pitching session will introduce exciting new artists from Germany, followed by refreshments, snacks and an opportunity to network with industry professionals, artists, and fellow music enthusiasts at the reception.
