The year 2024 brought numerous changes for Musicboard Berlin and the Berlin pop music scene. With fresh thematic focuses and a new managing director, the year was marked by innovation, diversity, and participation. As an interface between cultural policy, the music scene, and the public, Musicboard was able to provide crucial impulses for Berlin’s cultural landscape.
In total, 2.4 million euro in funding was available in 2024. This enabled the awarding of 117 residencies, scholarships, support tour and label grants, as well as financial support for 54 projects. Musicboard placed particular emphasis on mentoring, coaching, and internationalisation. With the new pilot programme PLUS, developed in cooperation with Music Pool Berlin, an additional qualification opportunity was created for Musicboard scholarship holders.
The Fête de la Musique once again offered an impressive display of musical diversity in 2024: with over 1,000 concerts at nearly 250 venues and more than 10,000 performing artists across all twelve Berlin districts, the city was transformed into one vast stage.
The Pop-Kultur festival celebrated its tenth anniversary from 28 to 30 August 2024. More than 100 programme items brought together international and local artists and attracted thousands of visitors. As part of the festival, the new platform Berlin Outbound – International Pop Exchange was launched to further strengthen the theme of internationalisation by supporting the professional development and networking of the Berlin music scene.
A comprehensive overview of all funding, events and collaborations from the past year can be found in the Musicboard Berlin Annual Report 2024, available online here.
